History

Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union has been serving Delta County for over 75 years.  GLFFCU was originally established in 1949 by 9 employees of the Harnischfeger Corporation under the name Harnischfeger Employees of Escanaba Federal Credit Union.  In 1982 we merged with Teamsters Local 328 Federal Credit Union. In 1983 with the closure of the Harnishfeger Corporation in Escanaba the name- Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union was born. GLFFCU merged with Gladstone Community Federal Credit Union in 1991.  From humble beginnings to nearly 9,000 members and stronger than ever. We are so proud to have deep roots in Delta County. We look forward to serving your financial needs in the years to come. 

MISSION STATEMENT

Great Lakes First Federal Credit Unions’ goal is to strive to serve our members’ needs in an ever-changing financial world.

MEMBERSHIP

  1. Employees of the Harnischfeger Corporation in Escanaba, MI.
  2. Members of Teamsters Local #328 in Escanaba, MI.
  3. Persons who live, work, worship or attend school in; and businesses and other legal entities located within a 4 mile radius of the post office located in Gladstone, MI.
  4. Persons who live, work, worship or attend school in; and businesses and other legal entities located in the following townships in Michigan:
    1. Bay de Noc
    2. Brampton
    3. Ensign
    4. Masonville
  5. Employees of the following companies who work in Gladstone, MI:
    1. Alger Delta Co-Op Electric Corporation
    2. Northern Michigan Splice Veneer, now called Besse Forest Products
    3. Marble Arms Company
    4. LaPine Brothers
  6. Persons who live in the underserved area of Delta County; persons who regularly work, worship, attend school, perform volunteer services or participate in associations headquartered in the underserved area of Delta County; persons participating in programs to alleviate poverty or distress which are located in the underserved area of Delta County; incorporated and unincorporated organizations located in the underserved area of Delta County or maintaining a facility in the underserved area of Delta County; and organizations of such persons.
  7. Members of Esky Band Boosters in Escanaba, Michigan, who qualify for membership in accordance with its charter and bylaws in effect on September 30, 1992;
  8. Spouses of such persons who died while within the field of membership of this credit union.
  9. Employees of this credit union.
  10. Persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the above employment.
  11. Members of their immediate family or household; and
  12. Organizations of such persons.

(Immediate family members defined as:  spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent or grandchild -includes all adoptive and step relationships.  Households are defined to include persons living in the same residence and who maintain a single economic unit).
